Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean are two of the biggest names in the industry for mainstream cruise lines; however, the cruise lines are also major competitors for affordable, family-friendly vacations. Even still, there are many differences between the two cruise lines.

While the Carnival cruise experience has certainly impressed me - as I had a negative perception of the infamous “party” cruise line - I still prefer Royal Caribbean. For this one I kept it in the Dream Theater realm, but went for a Rectifier song, because, well, this is a Recto demo. "In the Name of God" it is! Enjoy!

I double tracked it this time. 2 single takes panned hard right and left (the video take is the LEFT side). I also added Mike Portnoy's original drum track so you can hear it in the context of the mix (even though there's no bass, which makes a big difference). Let me know what you think!

I booked a last-minute cruise on Virgin Voyages. The cruise is a short, 4-night press trip, visiting Key West and Bimini and I’ll be honest, about a week ago, I had no clue what to pack. I checked Virgin’s website, and they told me to pack: “A splash of red for scarlet night, pajamas for the pJ party, retro workout attire, and a reusable workout attire”. Beyond that, I had no idea what to take so did some searches and here are 15 things I’ve decided to pack. I still feel like a Virgin Voyages rookie, though, so when I return, I’ll film a more comprehensive video sharing what to pack and what to leave home! OUR FIRST VIKING RIVER CRUISE
Viking is synonymous with river cruising, so when the opportunity came to sail the Seine River on the 8-day Paris and the Heart of Normandy itinerary, we jumped at the chance.
We have sailed on Viking Ocean cruises, so we are used to the line's level of service. The cruise line makes sure that all guests are well taken care of from the moment they arrive at the airport. From transfers to time ashore, the crew and staff offer exceptional and tailored service to everyone onboard.

The cruise line offers plenty of included amenities that make travel abroad seamless and efficient. Embarkation is a breeze, and getting on and off the ship at each port is casual and simple, with no lines or security hassles.

Along with transfers, the cruise line includes a tour of each port, WiFi, onboard specialty coffees and teas, bottled water, and soft drinks, and all onboard meals. Beer and wine are also included at meals. While the inclusions are great, the ships do have few onboard amenities. There is no fitness center, pool, or spa, although there is a small library.

We were also surprised at the limited onboard enrichment offered during our trip. Besides a local artist giving a lecture on impressionism, the program director gave all of the lectures. Mia was great, fun, and personable, but we expect more in-depth offerings regarding the itinerary and France.

The tours, too, were a mixed bag. We thought all of the tour guides were fantastic. They were knowledgeable and engaging. While we enjoyed many of the included tours, we were disappointed in our bus tour of Paris.

When evaluating the food for this Viking River cruise review, we would say the food quality was better overall than most mainstream cruise lines. Menus were quite limited, but they offered more upscale offerings tailored to the region. Also, we were surprised that both onboard eateries served the same menu.

Each day, the dining times are on a set schedule, with open seating for all meals. So, you will get to know the roughly 160 other guests on the ship quite well.

Our cozy veranda stateroom offered all of the typical features of a larger ship’s room in a tighter space. The bathroom had luxury bath products and heated tile floors. We have plenty of clothes space and additional storage for our gear. There was a small table and chair I was able to use as my office on Viking Radgrid, and having the veranda was a nice touch to watch the banks of the river roll by from the comforts of our room.

The 8-day itinerary included two days in Paris, a morning of self-exploration in La Roche Guyon, a walking tour of the historic city of Rouen, retracing the steps of allied heroes at the beaches of Normandy, and a warm and sunny full day at the quaint village of Les Andelys. Along with included tours, we also opted for optional additional tours of Versailles and the Louvre. Our Seine river cruise also included a tour of Napoleon's chateau and time sailing along this river's historic banks.

CARNIVAL JUBILEE CRUISE
Like our previous Carnival Cruises, Carnival Jubilee shined for casual dining. From the hamburgers at Guys Burger Joint to burritos at Blue Iguana and Shaq's Big Chicken, there is plenty to enjoy on the pool deck. Inside is the Coastal Slice with some of the best pizzas at sea. Guy's Pig and Anchor BBQ on sea days, and Beach Buns.

While the Casual Dining was fantastic, the main dining room was average. With Dine Your Way, we could eat at the Pacific Restaurant on Carnival Jubilee. Plus, we had the ability for the Carnival Jubilee review to eat at ChiBang and Cucina del Capitano. So, the flexible dining program's variety of options is a plus. While cruising, take advantage of the sea day brunch.

During our seven days onboard Carnival Jubilee, we tested two of the specialty restaurants. The steakhouse Fahrenheit 555 served admirable selections for the price. Rudi's Sea Grill offers seafood selections with plenty of flavor, too. Several additional upcharge restaurants, including the popular teppanyaki steakhouse and Bonsai Sushi, are also available.

Another typical element of the Carnival Jubilee cruise ship was the staterooms. Our balcony stateroom was on par with the competition. We feel the staterooms across the Carnival Cruise Line fleet are pretty bland, but what they lack in style is made up for in functionality. So, with plenty of storage and outlets, it was more than comfortable for the entire week.

Carnival Cruise Line ships are known as the fun ships, and Carnival Jubilee was no different. The cruise director, Kyndall Fire, made sure to keep the energy up all week. From the cruiser competitions to trivia sessions, game shows, and other Fun Squad events, there was a lot happening on Carnival Jubilee.

There were also a plethora of daytime activities. At night, there was a variety of live music throughout the ship. Over the seven nights, five different comedians offered adult—and family-friendly sets. Other activities like karaoke, Deal or No Deal, and several deck parties meant there was something to do at all hours of the day.

Carnival Jubilee boasts five different pools on the outdoor decks. The largest is the Beach Pool on Deck 16. There are also two aft pools, the Tides Pool and the Patio Pool. At the Serenity, adults have their own sundeck with a pool, two whirlpools, and plenty of loungers and day beds.

Families can also enjoy the Ultimate Playground. This sports deck has a mini-golf course, basketball court, jogging track, and an impressive waterpark. There is also Bolt, the electronic rollercoaster. This 45-second ride is worth the $15 upcharge.

While there were various daytime and nighttime activities, the bar line-up was standard. For our review of Carnival Jubilee, we made sure to stop at all of the bars. Among our favorites was the new Dr. Inks. We also enjoyed the cocktails at the Golden Mermaid and some mellow piano music.

Ahoy! We stayed on Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady for SEVEN nights and we bring you the FIRST and GREATEST EVER (I may be exaggerating) review of a full week on board this hugely colourful ship. What was it actually like? Was it as outrageous as they all say? Who's it really designed for? Would a middle aged couple who favour smaller, quieter ships like us actually ENJOY it? We reveal all!

DISCLOSURE: Our seven night voyage was made up of two separate voyages - a four night voyage in a Seriously Suite which we booked and paid full price for with ourselves no additional benefits or promotions over and above any other paying guest. Norwegian Cruise Line is one of my favorite cruise lines in the industry. I appreciate their commitment to bringing great cruise vacations to their guests for reasonable prices. Plus, they're one of the best in the industry at offering something for everyone onboard.

Over the past 12 months, I have been able to cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line 6 times and currently have three additional sailings booked for 2024. From these experiences, I have gained some insight into what some of the pros and cons of NCL might be for prospective travelers.

Because Norwegian is the cruise line I have sailed with the most, it tends to have more pros for me than cons, personally; however, there are some important negatives that potential cruisers should be aware of before booking a sailing with Norwegian Cruise Line to avoid any disappointment.
